Weekend Cashier/Store Team Member 

Job Overview

Store team members at The Roots Farm Market can expect to be present in front of customers during most of a shift. Team members are expected to interact with customers in a friendly manner, efficiently and correctly complete transactions using a POS system, and complete daily store tasks such as stocking, bagging, and cleaning. We are currently looking for new team members who have interest and availability to work weekends.


 

Job Duties 

  • Complete customer transactions quickly and efficiently using a POS system; handling cash, credit cards, checks, and gift cards 

  • Display market goods, including a wide array of fresh produce in a fresh, abundant, and sellable manner 

  • Receive deliveries of inventory. Price, merchandise, organize, and restock 

  • Maintain a clean and welcoming interior and exterior market space 

  • Interact with customers and community members in a friendly and respectful manner 

  • Bag, clean, sort, date, and manage a wide variety of very seasonal, fresh produce 

  • Monitor and assist with grab-and-go and hot  kitchen meals 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in customer service, food service, retail or agricultural related field 

  • Experience handling fresh produce; knowledge of seasonality of produce a plus 

  • Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks that strive for increased sales 

  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills 

  • Ability to adapt quickly to systems as the business continues to grow 

  • Attention to details and aesthetic 

  • Ability to hustle, coupled with a sense of humor 

  • Knowledge of local food and agricultural systems a plus

 

Physical Aspects 

  • Standing for long periods of time

  • Frequent standing up and sitting down

  • Walking short distances frequently 

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs frequently 

  • Changing temperature environments: walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer 

  • Repetitive motions 

 

Benefits & Compensation 

  • $15-$17 depending on experience 

  • Bi-Weekly Pay on Fridays

Schedule

  • Part time, must be able to work Fridays, Saturdays, and/or Sundays

  • Opening and closing shifts available

Kitchen Team Member

 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Execute food production following recipes and provided prep lists

  • Package, label, and date all prepared items

  • Participate in and encourage cost saving ideas/activities 

  • Assist in daily food prep, packaging, and stocking of items 

  • Observe weekly inventory and report when items are running low 

  • Maintain all food storage areas using Dept of Health guidelines 

  • Stock food inventory as well as paper goods, packaging, labels, and cleaning products for the kitchen 

  • Increase profitability by participating in regular meetings with The Roots Market team 

  • Maintain effective communication, be responsive to staff suggestions and concerns and work to resolve problems 

  • Maintain effective working relationships with all Roots Market employees 

  • Conduct regular inspections of the entire kitchen equipment/storage areas and promptly act to report issues 

 

Job Qualifications 

  • Have experience working in a production kitchen 

  • Have experience processing farm produce and whole food ingredients 

  • Be able to lift 30+ lbs regularly, work in a standing position for duration of shift, comfortable working with knives and hot cooking temperatures 

  • Must be reliable, professional, organized, and efficient 

  • Have references that confirm applicant's reliability and skill set 

 

Compensation

  • $16/hour start with opportunity for growth 

  • 15% store items

  • 2nd quality vegetables

  • Shift lunch & drink

Dishwasher/Prep Cook 

 

Job Responsibilities

● Clean dishes in a timely manner 

● Dry dishes and return to proper storage location 

● Assist in basic food prep, packaging, and stocking of items

● Maintain all food storage areas using Dept of Health guidelines

● Stock food inventory as well as paper goods, packaging, labels, and

cleaning products for the kitchen

● Maintain effective communication, be responsive to staff suggestions and

concerns and work to resolve problems

● Maintain effective working relationships with all Roots Market employees

Job Qualifications

● Be able to lift 30+ lbs regularly, work in a standing position for duration of

shift, comfortable working with knives and hot cooking temperatures

● Must be reliable, professional, organized, and efficient

● Have references that confirm applicant's reliability, attitude, and skill set

  • $15/hour

  • 15% discount on store items
