Store Team Member/Buyer (April 2024)

​

Overview: The Roots Farm Market (founded in 2019) is a farmer-owned market, open year round, that carries a variety of locally-sourced products and produce. Our mission is to offer local goods of the highest quality while providing a relaxed, intimate retail experience for our customers. Our staff is integral to this mission, and we work hard to create a positive, welcoming space for customers, vendors, and employees. 

 

We are currently looking for a motivated, positive, and flexible person to join our team as a Store Team Member/Buyer. The ideal candidate need not have buying experience, but must be a team player, with a deep appreciation and passion for local food and organic produce.  As this is primarily a public-facing role on the store floor, excellent communication and customer service skills are a must.

Store Tasks

  • Complete customer transactions at the register and interact regularly with customers in person and on the phone

  • Maintain a frequent presence on the store floor to create connection with staff and customers, a welcoming atmosphere, and help support an overall positive energy in the store 

  • Support other team members at the register during busier store hours

  • Help maintain quality within each area of the store by making sure product and produce displays are fresh, accurate, and aesthetically pleasing 

  • Maintain proper stocking and aesthetic protocols according to store standards and SOPs 

  • Keep walk-in organized & accounted for  

  • Restock products, bag, and clean as needed 

 

Communication 

  • Communicate regularly with management about questions and needs

  • Answer customer, vendor and staff questions as needed

  • Help ensure that all staff are aware of cleanliness, inventory, quality, aesthetic, expiration dates, pricing, labels 

  • Participate in team meetings 

 

Buying/Ordering & Receiving 

  • Work to maintain a well-stocked store by consistently ordering/reordering from our current vendor list 

  • Balance and maintain a varied ordering schedule (weekly, semi-monthly, etc) depending on vendors and needs of specific item

  • Create POs in inventory system, or relay order to manager  

  • Work closely with managers and owner to enter deliveries into POS system as needed 

  • Communicate with other team members to maintain accurate signage and pricing for store and update pricing weekly 

 

Vendor Relations 

  • Communicate regularly with local vendors to maintain consistency in store product stock

  • Can potentially establish and cultivate new relationships to  increase the presence and diversity of local products in the store 

  • Keep up to date about industry/regional trends, and regularly sample new local and regional products to add to store product portfolio

  • Research and visit other establishments and attend occasional buying events for purchasing inspiration 

  • Plan vendor tastings, demos, etc. to promote new products in store

 

Schedule

  • Minimum of 24 hrs/week and up to full-time (40 hours)

  • One weekend day 

 

Compensation 

  • $20-$21/hour 

  • Accrual based PTO

Store Team Member/Cashier (Spring 2024)

​

Overview:

We are looking for new Store Team Members/Cashiers to join The Roots Farm Market team! We share a common passion for local products and organic, locally-grown produce here at Roots. Our Store Team Members work hard to share that passion with the public, and to create and maintain a positive store experience for all customers. Team Members engage with customers at the register during most of a shift, while also completing vital daily store tasks such as grocery stocking, handling and packaging vegetables, watering plants and vegetables outside, and cleaning/organizing the store space. Ideal candidates will bring energy and positivity to the role while maintaining a high level of customer service. Weekend availability is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently and accurately complete customer transactions using the POS system

  • Interact with customers and community members in a friendly and respectful manner 

  • Price, merchandize, organize,or restock inventory as needed

  • Bag, clean, sort, date, and manage a wide variety of seasonal, fresh produce

  • Maintain abundant and appealing displays and a clean and welcoming space

 

Qualifications:​

  • Lifting 20+ lbs regularly, work in a standing position for duration of shift, occasional sitting, walking short distances

  • Changing temperature environments: working in walk-in coolers, on store floor, outside during summer

  • Must be reliable, professional, great at communicating, organized, and efficient

  • Demonstrated passion for teamwork, local food, and the community

  • Ideal candidates must be able to work 3-5 shifts per week depending on their availability and our scheduling needs

 

Compensation:

  • $16-$18/hour depending on experience 

  • Accrued Paid Time Off for those working 24 hrs/week or more

Schedule

  • Part Time or Full Time (32 hours and above) 

  • Opening and closing shifts (usually 6 or 8 hours) are available, weekdays and weekends

Production Kitchen Team Member (March/April 2024)

​

Overview:

We are seeking a motivated individual with kitchen experience and a passion for local organic food to join our kitchen team! The Roots Kitchen is a production kitchen, and new team members will be involved with food preparation, cooking, packaging and labeling, kitchen organization, and cleaning. Our ideal candidate will be an effective communicator with a can-do attitude and ability to work well in individual and team settings. Reliability and positivity a must! This position can be part time or full time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in food preparation and cooking under the supervision of the current kitchen team

  • Follow recipes, prep lists, and portion control guidelines to ensure consistency in quality

  • Ensure kitchen cooler on store floor is continuously stocked and accessible to customers

  • Package, label, and date all prepared items

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen area

  • Assist with menu planning and contribute ideas for new dishes

  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen

  • Assist with inventory management and stock rotation

  • Wash dishes as needed throughout shift

  • Communicate with and receive feedback from kitchen team, Kitchen Coordinator, store team, and Store Owner when needed or required

  • Help maintain a positive workplace culture by being responsive to staff suggestions and concerns, and work as a team to resolve problems

  • Maintain effective working relationships with all Roots Market employees

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least some experience working in a professional kitchen (production kitchen preferred)

  • Has experience processing farm produce and whole food ingredients

  • Lifting 20+ lbs regularly, work in a standing position for duration of shift, comfortable working with knives and hot cooking temperatures

  • Must be reliable, professional, great at communicating, organized, and efficient

  • Demonstrated passion for teamwork, local food, and the community

  • Have references that confirm applicant's reliability and skill set

  • Able to work during our kitchen hours (7a.m. - 3p.m.)

  • Ideal candidates must be able to work 3-5 shifts per week depending on their availability and our scheduling needs

 

Compensation:

  • $18+/hour depending on experience

  • 15% discount on store items

DISHWASHER/PREP COOK

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Clean dishes in a thorough and timely manner

  • Dry dishes and return to proper storage location 

  • Assist in basic food prep, packaging, and stocking of items

  • Maintain all food storage areas using Dept of Health guidelines

  • Stock food inventory as well as paper goods, packaging, labels, and cleaning products for the kitchen

  • Maintain effective communication, be responsive to staff suggestions and concerns and work to resolve problems

  • Maintain effective working relationships with all Roots Market employees

Job Qualifications

  • Be able to lift 30+ lbs regularly, work in a standing position for duration of shift, comfortable working with knives and hot cooking temperatures

  • Must be reliable, professional, organized, and efficient

  • Have references that confirm applicant's reliability, attitude, and skill set

Compensation

  • $16+/hour depending on experience

  • 15% store discount
